What is UL 746C?
The UL 746C regulation sets standards for polymeric materials used in electrical equipment, required by UL50. These requirements cover parts made of polymeric materials that are used in electrical equipment and describe the various test procedures and their use in the testing of such parts and equipment.
What does UL 94 HB mean?
UL 94 V-2 Vertical Burn; Burning stops within 60 seconds, Flaming drips ARE allowed. UL 94 H-B Horizontal Burn; Slow horizontal burn test (H-B) are considered “self-extinguishing”. This is the lowest (least flame retardant) UL94 rating.
What is UL F1 Rating?
To be F1 rated, Underwriters Laboratories (UL) specifies a 1,000 hr accelerated UV plus high temperature water exposure test to qualify polymer enclosures for outdoor industrial use.
What is UL blue card?
The Blue Card Program certifies that a material is appropriate for a specific 3D printing technology and helps ensure that the component or end-product manufacturer is using tested materials whose manufacture is being monitored at regular intervals by an independent test laboratory.
What is yellow card used for?
The Yellow Card, or Carte Jaune, is a medical passport issued by the World Health Organization. It’s an official record that some countries require for entrance, and it can document vaccination against diseases ranging from cholera and yellow fever to such childhood illnesses as rubella.
What are the UL ratings?
UL Listed Mark (all variations) UL Listing means that UL has tested representative samples of a product and determined that the product meets specific, defined requirements. These requirements are often based on UL’s published and nationally recognized Standards for Safety.
How do you calculate UL rating?
Check the Label
- Look for the UL trademark!
- Right under the UL trademark, the word LISTED or CLASSIFIED will appear in all capital letters.
- Under LISTED/CLASSIFIED you will find what the product is.
- Most importantly, under the product identity is the control or issue number.
Is ABS pipe fire rated?
When properly installed in compliance with building and fire codes, ABS can be used in fire-rated construction, such as high-rise dwellings. Schedule 40 ABS DWV systems are suitable for fire-rated wall, floor and ceiling assemblies. ABS pipe must be heated to over 871°F (465°C) before it will self-ignite.
Is ABS plastic self extinguishing?
All typical plastics have low flame resistance, hence arose the ABS Smartfil FIREPROOF which is a flame retardant or self-extinguishing in order to provide high levels of security in the environments of both daily life or work as technical parts….

When to use UL 746c vs ul 94-5va?
These requirements cover parts made of polymeric materials that are used in electrical equipment and describe the various test procedures and their use in the testing of such parts and equipment. If all the materials are classed as UL 94-5VA in molded parts, UL 746C flammability test are not required for the equipment.
Can a UL 94 material be used as a ul 50 material?
As an alternative to materials with the UL 94 classification 5VA, the UL 50 Regulation also permits material that has the classification UL 94 HB but has passed the flame test according to UL 746C.
How many UL’s are there for plastic materials?
There are 12 UL 94 specified flame classifications assigned to materials based on the results of these small-scale flame tests.
Which is the best standard for flammability in electrical equipment?
UL94-5V is test standard for the materials which are already classified in UL94 V-0, including both vertical and horizontal burning tests (UL94-5VA or UL94-5VB) UL746C is standard for polymeric materials used in electrical equipment, required by (UL50 Enclosures for electrical equipments)
