The show regularly attracts around 200,000 visitors, and there can be 30,000 people on site, making the fair the fifth largest population centre in Dorset, after Bournemouth, Poole, Weymouth and Christchurch (the population of the historic town of Dorchester being only half that number).

Martin Oliver (now Managing Director) was a small boy in short trousers then, but he can remember certain things about the early shows, with his father very much at the helm. He too can not have imagined then that one day he would preside over the biggest steam and vintage show in the World.

How old is Carters Steam Fair?
Carters Steam Fair began in 1977 when show promoters John and Anna Carter bought the Jubilee Steam Gallopers that still operates with us to this day. They travelled the 1890’s Steam Gallopers to steam rallies and fairs and as their passion for vintage fairgrounds grew, they added more rides to their collection.
